I am running Fume Fx for Maya 2015 sp2. Whenever I try to open the preview window in gpu mode maya crashes immediately. This is fine in Maya 2014 so I don't suspect the gpu. It works in cpu mode. Please help.

Hi there,
I'm having this weird problem of small fume explosions using object source. Do you have any ideas of what may be causing this?
I'm using a spline following a path with stable velocity...
Thanks!

Is vray GI working with fumefx?

Heyho,
how can I render smoke WITH GI in my scene (vray 2.45.01, maya 2014).
Default container (simple source), fuel switched off. directional light.
render settings -> smoke -> cast and receive shadows checked
-> ambient color black
Illumination -> mult 4
multi scatter -> smoke strength 0.1
so far so good
Switch on GI (primary: irr map/sec.: light cache)
Now the smoke looks very dark.
render settings -> smoke -> gi mult 999 -> smoke stays the same dark color
putting a value of 20 into the color of the smoke -> smoke stays the same dark color
rising the illumination map mult to 40 -> smoke stays the same dark color
multi scatter smoke strength to 20 -> smoke stays the same dark color
When I render the same thing with mray and final gather the color of the smoke stays
more or less the same, just the shadows get lighter as expected to bouncing light.
Can someone please help me? What am I doing wrong?
Cheers
Rico

object source emission pattern

Hi,
when I use a polyPlane or a circle plane (cylinder cap) to emit smoke from (fuel inactive, aslo all turbulences and vorticity switched off) I get patterns in the emission.
I would expect a uniformly distributed smoke emission over the whole surface (which I then could breakup exactly the way I want with a intensity texture in the smoke slot).
Instead I get always patterns like the attached image shows.

Am I missing something? I tryed volume, shell ... free flow. Doesn't matter.
Cheers

Hi,
I have an issue when it try to retime(slow down) a simulation.
I made a simulation of a cache then i do a retime with a factor scale 0.010, the maximum simulation step is set to 1 for the the creation of the post cache.
But when i read this cache i have a little jump/stutter every 100 frames.

A license does not become free even though it closes Maya of sl mode.
How many seconds is the license holding time of a client?
Can release a license manually?

From what I'm understanding in the help section for the dynamic daemon, objects designated as "unyielding" can be used for reflecting and refracting waves. However, this only seems to apply to waves generated by wakes from other objects, and not from the Dreamscape waves themselves.
Am I simply not configuring something right, or do unyielding objects only affect wakes from moving objects associated with the dynamic daemon?

flicker in shadows cast by objects rendered in vray

We're rendering with shadows in vray and both local and on the farm, the shadows flicker. The alpha is fine, and with shadows off, fine, but with shadows on, flicker.
We did three tests:
- objects cast shadows, fumefx self shadow: flickers
- objects not casting shadows, fumefx self shadow: no flicker
- objects cast shadows, fumefx not self shadow: flicker
So any thoughts as to why object shadows are flickering in fumefx with vray shader?
specs:
maya 2014
vray for Maya version 2.45.01, revision 24241 from Feb 26 2014, 06:27:25
fumefx for maya 3.5.3
Win7 x64 pro
Oh, one more thing, we tried both rendering in batch locally, so one machine, one architecture, and rendering on the farm...same results.
Thank you for any help on this.

Has anyone tried rendering foam and a "wake" resulting from waves hitting a shore line?
I have a small island in my scene with a mixture of sandy and rocky beaches. I've thought about turning my island into some kind of "boat" that has very high mass, friction and inertia multipliers, but wondered if anyone else had experience with this, and could point me along a better path.
Thanks.
