XP4 support?
#1
Loving FumeFX so far. Has anyone gotten x-particle advection to work with it yet? I can't seem to finger that one out.

I have not been able to make it work either, sadly. XP is the predominant particle system in Cinema. Unless Tyflow also ports over from 3ds max, FumeFX will need to work with X-Particles somehow...

Turns out its pretty easy. Make a new TP group, link XP to that TP group, add the TP group to the FumeFX particle source.

I got that far, but I saw no results from the actual sim. How did you link XP to the TP group? Perhaps I missed something there...

in your XP emitter, go to Emission/Thinking Particles and drag your TP group you created into the "Add to TP Group" field. Also drag the TP group into your Fume Particle Source/Particles window

Sorry but I have to say that X-particles is better than Tyflow at now.

Ah, I missed the adding the TP group to the particle source requirement. Seems to be working now.

Really? Have you had a chance to use Tyflow? Many of my friends swear by it.

Tyflow is better in dynamics, But X-partcles is much better at modifying particles.

It would be very interesting to see such a comparison. I was a 3ds max guy for years, and back then it was Particle Flow, which I really liked. Tyson Ibele was just starting to show off a few little tricks back in those days.

Most of the particle work that I do is to replicate real phenomena, so dynamics is important, but so is scope. I like XP alot, but I have had it bite me in the a** during critical phases of a few projects. There is a limit to the complexity that XP can handle, it seems. That said, Insydium are great people, and always very helpful.

XP is great for the abstract stuff, but that is not really what I do...

It is actually too bad that Cinema 4D still has the old TP 1 and that it does not receive any updates as FumeFX with TP has been used together in so many 3ds max VFX studios around the globe.

Yes, it is a shame that Cinema's TP implementation never went beyond where it is. I can only assume that there were difficulties between Maxon and Edwin Braun back in the day. I recall Edwin being quite a handful during those years (referring more to the 3ds max community, as I know nothing of his interactions with Maxon and I am just speculating).

One of the things I was hopeful for when I switched to Cinema was that I could continue to use TP as well. I was quite disappointed when I learned that the version in Cinema as so out of date.

Would love to see the relationship thaw and TP get the upgrade that it deserves in Cinema. I'm not holding my breath, however.

My guess is that Maxon wanted to have better particle system in Cinema 4D so they've bought TP 1 from Cebas. Probably they did't want to invest in newer versions and didn't invest in development on their side either (or they were unable to do so by the agreement). Similar thing happened with Particle Flow in 3ds max - it got updated only with Box #2 and Box #3 they've bough from developer but nothing major hasn't been done with it.

Just a test to show it is working via xparticles generating TP and several TP groups. Emitter control is full xparticles, just output used for fume is TP which got two subgroups to separate colours....
