Hello,
The solution under 1) is to go solvers->Memory Cache Enable, select Particle Shape and under General control attributes select "Cache Data". Then, click on the play button in Maya so that particle go through all the frames to create cache in memory (you can do a few runs until all the frames are stored inside the memory). After that go to solver->Create Particle Disk Cache and cache to disk. After it's done, memory caching can be disabled.
