Afterburn Licensing Question

Hi,
Quick question regarding my Afterburn license... I currently have my license installed on my 3ds Max 64-bit version. I also have the 32 bit version of 3ds Max installed on the same PC and wanted to know if I can install and use the 32 bit version of Afterburn as well. I tend to have both versions of 3ds Max open on my PC so I am able to do rendering with one version while being able to work in the other. I didn't know if I was required to have 2 licenses for Afterburn in order to use it for both.

[Feature Request] Floating point density Render Elements

Was just thinking it would be nice to have 32bit floating point alphas for the smoke so you can get better results thinning out the smoke in comp but this dosent make too much sense for the render to do 3bit float alphas on everything, so perhaps render elements that would output fire density and smoke (and temp and fuel too) density would be good. The more layers we can get into our exrs in one render the better

FumeFX and Mental Ray Displacement

Hey, I've been working on a project that is done using mental ray as its main renderer. How do some people composite their FumeFX over their Mental Ray Renders?
The problem I'm having is smoke is being emitted from a character, this character model has a displacement map shader on the character, obviously when I'm doing the smoke simulations, it is calculating based on the mesh BEFORE the displacement map is applied, so when I render out the smoke in mental ray, the displacement adds volume to the model causing the smoke to be covered up by the mesh and doesn't look like the smoke is being emitted from the character.
rendering out the smoke in Scanline does not work because scanline doesn't support the mental ray material displacement, and when comping the smoke from scanline over the mental ray there are problems as the shapes don't match, so it just looks wrong
Any suggestions on how I should tackle this? its quite frustrating,

Why does the velocity add so much more size?

Just looking at the FDX file size when im saving with and without velocity... my file with smoke and fuel is 1meg and with smoke, fuel and velocity is 10meg. same if my smoke and fuel is 10meg, adding velocity pushes it up to 100meg!
I would have thought the smoke and fuel are both a single float value while the velocity is a vector (3 floats) so if my smoke and fuel is 10meg then with velocity I should get 25meg. Why does velocity seem to add 6 times the data it should?
Im sure there is other stuff going on that i dont understand but it seems a huge price to pay to include velocity.

Hi,
I just watched the behavior of the CPU usage during simulation.
I have an intel Core i7 920 OC to 3.2Ghz.
the simulation start and it uses the 13% of the cpu. when it reaches the advect velocities it boost up to 98% and one the Advect fiedls are done it drops again to 13%....
I'ld like to know if it's normal and if it's possible to improve...because it takes 2 min per frame for the simulation, but during 1min 25 sec the cpu is only at 13% ....
Maybe it's important to say that this scene use a particles set up.
Thank you for the attention.

Black dots...

Hello, I am getting some black dots in my render here. Very strange. The weirdest part is if I disable atmospherics and effects, they still render though the ab particles aren't!
I've been using Vray, but they scanline renderer still shows the artifacts. Here is a screen shot. The weird part is on Frame 1 this don't show up, but by frame 20 or so they are all over the place.
I've tried everything I can to solve this one, but nothing works. I'm on Afterburn 4, using win 7 64 bit, dual quad xeons, 8 gb ram.
Thanks again for any help,
AJ

Win7 AB install "Not enough space on drive C:"

I am attempting to install AB on 64 bit Max2011 on a Win7 machine so I can get the 64 bit files to copy to my render nodes. But the installer tells me there isn't enough space to extract the files. I am accessing the installer over a network connection and there is 800G free on the drive.
Any thoughts?
UPDATE: Clicking "retry" worked.

AB & Max201 32 & 64 render farm installs

I have to install AB on the render farm again. What is the easiest way to accomplish this. My workstation is still a 32 bit XP box. But I need to have the 64 bit version of AB on all of my render nodes as well as the 32 bit version.
Since my main box is 32 bit I don't have an install to copy files from. If that is the method. Also, if I just use the AB installer on the render nodes it installs a service which I know I don't need.
Do I just copy the Afterworks folder from my main workstation to the same place on all the render nodes? That's fine. But what about the 64 bit install that I need on all the machines in case I want to launch 64 bit renders?
Thanks!!!!
Jona.

Hi everyone,
can anybody point me on how to make my smoke expand more quickly and in a exaggerated way then normal? let's imagine I want my smoke to grow into a cloud...for example.
Thanks for all the help.
