  Hyper Solids in AfterBurn Problem
Posted by: Normand - 07-25-2008, 04:49 PM - Forum: AfterBurn - Replies (10)

Hello

I wanted to know if anybody has problem with Hyper Solids in AfterBurn.
I put a Particle System Super Spray then I put Afterburn then Hyper Solide use Phong Shading then Metaball and I put one Omni light and use AB Shadow Map. I click render and crash all the time. I even sent it to my network farm and crash.
I open the Afterburn scenes files that come with Afterburn I use mball-liquid and pflow-example01 and crash.

  Installation issue MAX2009
Posted by: Bandu - 07-25-2008, 03:45 PM - Forum: AfterBurn - Replies (1)

I was testing AB4 with MAX 2009 and see, the path in plugin.ini of MAX9 was changed after the installation of AB4 for MAX2009.

Afterworks Common=...\3ds Max 9\Plugins\Afterworks\Common was set to ...\3ds MAX 2008\Plugins\...
repeat - 2008!!

I had to change it back or get an load error.
Why is the MAX2009 installation touching MAX9 files?
Setting it to 2008??

I guess FFX is doing the same... will see... :-)

Cheers,
Bandu

[EDIT] I have to correct myself, it was some 2008 install issue, just see it now after reinstalling MAX 2008/2009

SORRY!

Crashing with Map Previews & FusionWorks
Posted by: joescarr - 07-23-2008, 06:00 PM - Forum: AfterBurn - Replies (5)

we have a strange situation... the Afterburn map previews crash Max if we touch the Aburn UI (scrub map preview, change Regularity or Bias, etc).

if we delete the FusionWorks atmosphere entry then everything is usually okay... until we finish a render... then it will crash again.

it's a big production scene so I'll send to Afterworks support... but has anyone else seen this?

AB Shadow Map = Forced Particle Shadows
Posted by: joescarr - 07-22-2008, 01:13 AM - Forum: AfterBurn - Replies (10)

If we use AB Shadow Map, and if Afterburn Rendering dialog is NOT set to "Shadow Cast" then the light will still cast shadows from the particles onto scene objects, but he is not supposed to cast shadows!

In this image, the shadow on the ground should not be there because "Shadow Cast" is not checked.

Backburner can't communicate with simming node during sim?
Posted by: bdemetz - 07-21-2008, 10:11 PM - Forum: FumeFX & NodeWorks [max] - Replies (3)

This may be by design or limitation, but generates a problem as follows:

We have backburner go down often. Since there seems to be no communication between bb and the simming machine once simming starts and until it's finished, when backburner is restarted, it thinks that the sim job has been reset (even tho the simming node is happily still simming away), so bb sends the job to another machine and the sim starts over on a 2nd node.

Any workarounds?

This is also troublesome because if you've sent off a bunch of sims, you can't stop them within bb. You have to go cancel the sim on each node that's simming.

Thanks,

Cannot get vray gi to work with ffx
Posted by: kallipigos - 07-21-2008, 02:16 PM - Forum: FumeFX & NodeWorks [max] - Replies (2)

I wonder if there's a compatibility issue with vray 1.5 sp 2 ? Can anyone confirm it works for them? (max 2009). I do not have an older version of vray so I can't test it.

I get the minimum amount of gi on the surface it's sitting on but whatever I spin the multiplier to to seems to make no difference. I've enabled multiple scattering but still nothing.

i really need to try and light an environment with the flame and I just cannot gt it to make any difference.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

sensitivity 0.0 is not the same as 'no' sensitivity?
Posted by: bdemetz - 07-17-2008, 04:27 AM - Forum: FumeFX & NodeWorks [max] - Replies (9)

This compares frame 10 of a huge water explosion. This has a very large ffx box with high expansion, high timescale, and some initial noise. So far, it's got great detail. My question is basically in the subject line. Compare the images below. The top image is sensitivity 0.0 which will be great for saving on ram and sim time, but shows the volume being compressed by the sensitivity box - even at 0.0, whereas the bottom image has it turned off and it looks fine though will be a bear to sim out. btw, this is a crop of what will be HD resolution. Is this a known issue that sometimes high expansion sims will still be 'pushed' by the sensitivity box? try typing that word several times, btw Wink

  age\distance dependant expansion
Posted by: phibmobil - 07-16-2008, 02:46 PM - Forum: FumeFX & NodeWorks [max] - Replies (4)

Hi

Is it possible to confine expansion to only certain voxels, based on distance from an object, or age of fuel ?

Say I want only the base of my fire to expand, and not the fire that is already some time old..

At this point expansion is global and affects all fire in grid.

expressions ? TP ?

Cheers
