  Very slow viewport updates
Posted by: Dragony - 05-11-2009, 12:23 PM - Forum: FumeFX & NodeWorks [max] - Replies (2)

Hi.

I have a quadro 5800 with Max 2010, Vista64 and DX9.

My problem:

If I create a Fume grid in the viewport and want to display the voxels (smoke and fire) it gets VERY slow when I move the viewport. Even if I have just about 100 visible voxels. It looks like the movement blocks every second for about 300ms, as if it always needs to update something. This phenomenon immediately disappears when I disable the voxel view.

What is it?

  Multithreading
Posted by: ar Lutik - 05-11-2009, 03:38 AM - Forum: FumeFX & NodeWorks [max] - Replies (1)

I installed my brand new max 2009 64b (not max 2010 since finalRender has no installer for it yet)

if I have Use All cpu's checked I crash on my dual quad 3.2 when I start my simulation (sometimes I get 1 to 3 frames done) on any scene (I tried all the examples)

so I tried on my other dual quad 2.33 and no problem on that one

what can I do to make it work on my faster machine

before that I was on max 7 32b and never had a problem

thanx for your help

  2010 and Mental Ray
Posted by: Steve Green - 05-09-2009, 08:08 PM - Forum: FumeFX & NodeWorks [max] - Replies (8)

Hi,

I could have sworn I didn't need to do anything special in Max 2009 to get FFX to render in mental ray, but in 2010 it doesn't want to know - has something changed or am I mistaken?

Thanks,

Steve

  Preview Max 2010 and Gamma?
Posted by: Steve Green - 05-09-2009, 09:56 AM - Forum: FumeFX & NodeWorks [max] - Replies (2)

Hi,

I noticed that the renders out of Max 2010 are washed out compared to the FFX preview when Gamma correction is enabled (set to 2.2)

Is this how things are supposed to be?

I'm still hazy on the whole thing, every time I look there appears to be contradictions, so I never know if something is working as it should or if it's a bug.

Thanks,

Steve

!!! Restore - .FDC files when FumeFX caches !!!
Posted by: Eric-S - 05-05-2009, 05:41 PM - Forum: FumeFX & NodeWorks [max] - Replies (2)

Hi,

Sometime when I simulate with FumeFX and my computer crashes, when I press on the continue my simulation button, FumeFX doesnt remember where he was.

Is there a way to re-write on the .FDC file so that FumeFX remembers where he was without RE-simulating all of the simulation.

thanks,

Free Flow Object source not working?
Posted by: aauty1 - 05-05-2009, 01:04 AM - Forum: FumeFX & NodeWorks [max] - Replies (1)

I have two object sources in one Fumebox, one is emitting Fuel/Smoke. the other is sitting above it emitting no fuel smoke.

I have the 2nd object with a temperature controller that will emit smoke when its hot. However, even with free-flow checked on the 2nd object, it still causes the 1st object to "collide"

Id love it if the 1st sim just did what it had to do, and drive the 2nd object to emit smoke when it passes over it.

I'm not quite sure if this is the workflow to get using the free-flow checkbox with object sources. If anyone has advice on this topic, love to hear it.

Cheers.

HELP - FumeFX Field artifacts - HELP
Posted by: Eric-S - 05-04-2009, 06:49 PM - Forum: FumeFX & NodeWorks [max] - Replies (4)

Hi when I render my scene with fumeFX, the render gives me some artifacts (see image attachted).
My spacing boxe size is around 550x500x600. So I don’t think it’s the quality of the sim.
I was seeing the same problem when I render some dense smoke in close-up.
We are also rendering with scanline.

Any suggestion?
thanks for your support,

Eric

  FumeFX 2010 Error Loading DLLs
Posted by: muzzleburst - 05-03-2009, 04:06 AM - Forum: FumeFX & NodeWorks [max] - Replies (13)

Hi,

I uninstalled all Afterworks plugins for 3ds Max 2009 and also uninstalled 3ds Max 2009 (32-bit).
I then downloaded and installed Dreamscape, FumeFX, and AfterBurn for 3ds Max 2010 (32-bit). DreamScape and AfterBurn appear to be working correctly, but 3ds Max is reporting an error when trying to load a DLL for FumeFX (this occurs during the 3ds Max splash screen):

DLL
failed to initialize.
Error code 126 - The specified module could not be found.

I'm not sure what module this dialog is referring to. I checked that the DLO file listed above exists, and it does.

I press OK on this dialog box and then 3ds Max continues to load normally, but then another error occurs when the UI appears:

File Error:
Could not open file FumeFx.ini for writing.
Global preferences will not be saved.

I press OK, and then I can continue using 3ds Max.

The installers that I used are:
AfterBurn40bR2010.exe
DreamScape25eR2010.exe
FumeFX12R2010.exe

I did try uninstalling FumeFX (I initially installed it in custom mode and selected all of the components), and then I reinstalled FumeFX using the recommended configuration. Both installation attempts result in the same behavior listed above.

I'm using Vista Ultimate (SP1, 32-bit, all updates), and 3ds Max 2010 (32-bit).

Thanks a bunch for any help or FYIs.
Bob
