Blocky Artifacts
#1
Newbie Fumefx user desperately trying to get rid of blocky artifacts in simulation/render.
I've tried scaling down the source object, increasing the grid spacing, and increasing
simulation quality but no luck. If I reduce the grid spacing any further I'll start to get
application out of memory errors while running the simulation. Any and all help would
be greatly appreciated. I've attached a jpeg of my render and settings.

Thanks,

Lawrence.

Wrong direction, you answered your own question below and you have discovered the hitch.

Get more ram, period. If you are getting out of memory errors with those settings you need to invest in some hardware if you want to be able to do a decent simulation. What are you running less than a 512mb of physical memory? You can have a slow processor but you need a place to stored the calculations and that is done entirely in ram.

You can however...
These two will help the most with the Ram issue:
Reduce the grid dimensions so you objects barely fits on X & Y, only export fire (remove smoke form the "Export Channels" and turn it off in the sim panel under Fire "Fuel creates smoke" and untick the smoke rollout).

These will make the solver go faster:
Lower the solver iterations (75), lower the quality to say 3, set your turbulence to 0.0.

That may get you a little further. Smile
