Dreamscape & 3DS Max space warps
#1
Hi,

I would to know if it's possible for Dreamscape sea surface to interact with 3DS Max space warps. I've to animate an Helicpoter over a sea surface, and I can't understand how to generate foam from the heli main rotor on the sea surface.

thanks

Hi,

unfortunately the foam can only be generated from the base sea surface (sea motion or dynamics). So any space warps or modifiers can displace the mesh but they won't contribute to any foam generated.

What you could possibly do as a workaround is have a non-rendering, unyielding sphere with a noise controller so it bobbles about where you want the downdraft to be.

But to be honest, I think you would be better off with a custom shader, maybe use the cap of a tube and conform it to the sea, then animate the texture uvs to scroll a a foamy texture from the centre out.

Note that if you use custom bitmaps, use real-world scale in your dreamscape material, that is a lot easier to control.

Just a reminder, Kreso did mention here on the forum that the ability to create foam and interaction with passive objects in Dreamscape is (was at the time) 80% complete. That sounds like a great new feature that we can all use.
