Normalized 2d Motion Vectors
#1
Has anyone had any success in getting normalized 2d motion vectors to render out of Fume Maya? All I'm getting is a grey render of 0.5 0.5 0.5 (regular non-normalized 2d and 3d are rendering, so I think I have the rest of my settings correct)

In Max Fume it's possible to get normalized motion vectors by using the FusionWorks Renderer to make a FusionWorks Velocity pass. Unfortunately I'm limited to Maya at the moment.

I attached an image of what I'm trying to achieve (a friend made this in Max Fume.) What I'm looking to do is use motion vector data to help flow pixels between frames of an animated flip-book on a billboard sprite to make the transitions smoother.

Thanks for any help!

Hello,

Can you please let me know the Maya and FumeFX version, which renderer do you use, which pass and do you have velocities exported.

Thank you.

I'm running Maya 2015 Extension 1, FumeFX 3.5.7 for Windows. I'm rendering with Mental Ray with the "Normalized 2D Motion Vector" (mv2DNormRemap) pass.

I have the Export Velocity option checked in the Fume Output settings, yes.

I've attached a screenshot in case that helps. Thanks for the help!

Hello,

I have checked and there is no support for that one, but 2D and 3D motion vector should work.
We can add support for "Normalized 2D Motion Vector" (mv2DNormRemap) in FumeFX 4.0.

Thank you.

is it implementing?

"2D Motion Vector" (mv2DToxik) is OK.
but "Normalized 2D Motion Vector" (mv2DNormRemap) is not output. (gray fill)

I confirm by FumeFX [Maya] 4.0.1 + Maya 2016/2015 + win7

Hello,

We gave this a try, but we are not sure it is works with user access to fb as when we render geometry with Normalized 2D Motion Vector, all the values are pretty much the same
regardless of the velocity direction or magnitude, but FumeFX is the same as in regular 2D motion vector.
Judging by the example output attached, we'd say that Maya does not support user frame buffer access for this pass.

We can try to get parameters from that render pass and try to match the math.

Thank you.
