consistanly poor wavelet results

I have been RNDing FumeFX for the last several months now. I am unable to get a wavelet pass to actually ADD detail to my simulation. It has proven to only REMOVE detail. I have tried adjusting the scale of my simulations, everything from a very low default spacing (1.00) to a very high default spacing (0.10). I have increased the Quality, Max Iterations and Max Steps to the highest level. I have tried a WT resolution of 1.50 to 3.00. The higher the WT resolution, the less detail is left in my simulation.

Every single time I try WT, the results are less fire, less smoke, and blobby sparse results. I have searched and searched only finding beautiful WT results on the web. Absolutely NO voxel artifacts.

I get such beautiful results in the default pass. I just need some help getting rid of the voxel noise without destroying the results that the client approved in the default simulation. I know it must be something I am doing wrong, but I will be damned if I can figure what it is I am doing to get such poor results.

I reported this issue to Support. I believe this might be a bug with 3.5.5 for Maya.

Hello,

I suggest that you start with Fire/Smoke/Fuel strength parameters set to 0.0 (located under Wavelet Turbulence rollout) and see what the result will be.
Can you please let me know what are your current values?

Yes sir, you have solved my problems I believe. Setting Fire, Smoke and Fuel at 0. And increasing the grid spacing in the wavelet options gives the correct results.

I would also like to ask about a setting I found for Max called $.systemscale. Is there an equivalent process to dynamically set systemscale for the fume box in Maya?

Hello,

I'm glad that I have helped.
Wavelet Turbulence tends to perturb fire and smoke so you might end up with chunks of fire. Maybe you could also change the result by tweaking the fire opacity ramp.

As for the systemscale, it's pretty much equivalent to altering the gravity parameter and at this moment, there is no access to it in Maya.
