Hi. I am interested in finding out the correct technique used to gamma correct the FumeFX color swatches so everything looks right when rendering to EXR files.

Hello,
It seems that Maya color swatches on the GUI does not display gamma corrected automatically.
When the FumeFX is rendered, the renderer itself applies gamma correction to the output.

Hi,
just to make sure I understand you correctly.
Does the sentence: "When the FumeFX is rendered, the renderer itself applies gamma correction to the output."
mean that the gamma of 2.2 gets baked into the fumeFX Elements of the final image?
Does this: "It seems that Maya color swatches on the GUI does not display gamma corrected automatically."
mean that the colors a linearized before sent into fumeFX shader calculations?
If a gamma of 2.2 gets baked into the fumeFX elements in the final image I got a problem because I am rendering linear with vray.
As soon as I apply a sRGB LUT to my linear exrs in my framebuffer I would have a double sRGB on my fumeFX elements.
They appear washed out ... or to say it more visually my hot/bright spots disappear and everything somehow falls into orange. I lose the nice gradient from white/hot over orange to red.
Thanks for your help.
Rico
Hello Rico,
FumeFX does not do anything about gamma setting in Ray - it's the renderer's job to apply its own rendering settings to an image.
Can you please post images that shows the problem you're seeing ? It seems to be working fine here.
Thank you.

That's good to hear ... and after some more shading tests I was already pretty sure that there is no gamma baked in anywhere. I just missunderstood you and came to the weired assumption that the fume vray shader is somehow applying its own gamma to its color calculation.
Everything is fine.
Thanks a lot!

Hello Rico,
You're welcome and I'm glad that everything is working as expected.
