Shadow pass with matted objects
#1
Hi I'm trying to get a render with matted object but I would like to have a shadow pass in the openExr buffer.

Right now are work around is the render the fumefx with the matted object using opacity black hole in the shader. Then Re-Render a other pass with fumefx and the objects not matted. But I need to render 2 time the fumefx. In a stereo show thats 4 time the render... Sad

anyone knows how to do 1 render and to have fumefx Matted and with a shadow pass?

thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric,

Do you maybe know how it works with Maya Fluids ?
So, you'd need just a separate shadow pass ?

Thank you.

It was the same issue with Maya fluid, as soon as you put an object with a black hole opacity to create a matte with that object, the shadow in the shadow pass doesnt affect that object anymore.

thanks,

Hi Eric,

Then this could be a mental ray inherited issue in regards how it handles volumes.
We will examine this, but no high hopes.
Could you please email me the scene for the reference ?

Thank you.

same here ... super annoying that there is no way to get the shadows and hold outs in one render.

I get something else which bugs me ... in the shadow pass I can see the geo which intersects with the adaptiv grid (e.g. the floor) in a dark grey color.

Is there a way to get rid of this?

Thanks a lot!

Hello,

Does it help if you move the floor a little bit down and away from the FumeFX grid?
I did try to create the scene that shows this issue, but without luck.
