in need of a tip
#1
Hi,

I need a bit of help with a work I'm doing.

I'm suppose to create a small cloud of smoke and follow it while it goes up.

I managed dissipation and turbulence, but the simulation start to slow down after 60 frames, and cannot continue after 90 frames....it freez up.

the scene is simple, a simple emitter that during 3 frames sends out smoke with 30 density.

then the gravity does the job to follow the camera that was tracked.

I have 200 frames, but I cannot get passed the 100....... quality is about 3 and itinerations 30....not that heavy.

any idea or tips?

Thank you.

Francesco.

Hey Francesco,

that's really hard to answer without seeing the scene, but if the smoke slows down that's usually a sign that there isn't enough temperature to drive it.

So here are a few things you can try: Emit more temperature from your src and don't turn it off, kill temperature dissipation, increase heat production, create a second simple src that only emits temp and animate it with your smoke.

Hope that helps,

Fabian

FabianB,

thank you for the tip, I think the second emitter is a very good solution.

One more question on this topic.

I finally have the smoke moving where I want, but even with dissipation at 0 it disappears too early...

I changed opacity and fallof, but still disappearing too early.

Is there a way without re simulating or am'I obliged to increase density and restart simulation?

Thank you.

This is a common mistake, people think because they are done emitting smoke/fuel/velocities from their source that the source is no longer doing anything, when indeed it is. If you don't move/remove the source from the grid still acts like a source by continuing to influence the grid either with velocities or temperature or even a void. Sources always affect the grid.

Move it out of the way if you are done with it Wink

I maybe assuming that your source is encompassing or close to your emitted smoke, as I have no idea what your scene looks like.
blower of smoke ..ooOO
