that's really hard to answer without seeing the scene, but if the smoke slows down that's usually a sign that there isn't enough temperature to drive it.
So here are a few things you can try: Emit more temperature from your src and don't turn it off, kill temperature dissipation, increase heat production, create a second simple src that only emits temp and animate it with your smoke.
