Scale
#1
I have a question regarding the scale settings in fumeFX maya.

The help documents say that "Since FumeFX is based on real-world computational fluid dynamics, something to consider is the scale of your scene. Just like other simulation engines, you will get unpredictable results if your scenes are microscopic or gigantic in scale. - ... - so be sure to watch the scale of your scenes. "

I wonder which unit does FumeFX calculate in, is it cm? Is the default container 100*100*100 cm large?

Is there a possibility to change the systemscale in maya like in the 3ds Max version with assigning different values to $.systemscale ?

Hello,

It comes from 3ds max where default unit is inch.
This notice is more of a guidance to keep the size under the same order of magnitude as going in extremes could cause computational errors.

.systemScale is not exposed in Maya.

Hi, I know the .systemScale is not a supported feature but can you tell us how to expose it in FumeFX for Maya? I have some very big scale explosion I need to work on and changing the turbulence values doesn't seem to give me the extra detail smoke of that size would show. Everything I find online that looks amazing in 3dsmax, they all use the system scale to give it that much detail.

Thanks.

Hello,

This parameter is pretty much the same as changing the Gravity value.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your response but I'm having a hard time getting all the smoke detail that you get with a large plume smoke. I change the turbulence values to be very small but still the overall smoke is soft and it lacks the detail like the image that I'm linking below.

What do you suggest I can do to get this look.

What is your emitter?
-simple
-object
-particle

You might find particle emitters worth a try for that.
