FumeFX 2.1

I am very pleased to inform you that FumeFX 2.1 is released.
It can be downloaded from our members area.
What's New in 2.1
- FumeFX now supports fully interactive simulations. This means that user can change almost every parameter during the simulation and see it's influence on the simulation result. It is even possible to change channels that will be saved to the output file, or to move objects and change their parameters.
- Version 2.1 introduces Variable Density solver that uses smoke density and temperature as variables. The result of this addition is increased physical realism, where cold air and dense smoke will have stronger inertia compared to the hot air and lower density smoke.
- New is also the CFL condition parameter that directly controls the number of simulation steps. This is the value that defines the maximum distance allowed for any cell data (velocity, smoke, fire, etc..) to travel in one simulation step. If velocities are bigger then defined by this condition, simulation sub steps will be initiated.
- New Advanced advection scheme that reduces dissipation.
- Default simulation uses all cores during the Wavelet Turbulence calculations, which results in significant speedup.
- finalRender 3.5 Global Iiiumination is now up to 6x faster !
- Preview Window now prints out 3ds max frame number.
- Added ability to stop/continue Retimer.
- Various bug fixes from eariler versions.
Regards,
Kresimir

Cubic interpolation Question

Hi! Kresimir, Rif ( I know you r here)
I should have asked this in Cgfluid but while reading all the posts here I just realized that I don't know " Excact usage of Cubic interpolation" check box.
In some posts, people say " turn on cubic that will help!", "need cubic activate!" cubic ! cubic!
I go through the manual saying " need high quality , Turn on" "less dissipation and more swirls"
When do I need to check Cubic? and Why? , for me if I need more swirl, I simply lower advection, high vorticity. the reason I don't check Cubic is because I don't know well about Cubic usage.
would you please explain more detail about Cubic so I can use it well on the need and excact situation.
really curious about that!
Thanks!. oh. I want fume v2.0!! it will be on my hand soon.
Rif ? Should I double post this on Cgfluid ?
(The Host2 Teaser has finished. I work distruction stuff with TP3.0. hehe)

FFX 2.0a Simple Source FuelType via MXS

Another issue, can you please confirm
If I create a simple source via maxscript, the fuel type returns blank even though I call for set with fuelType:2
Code: Simple_Src pos:[0,0,0] isSelected:on size1:10.0 Size2:10.0 Size3:10.0 \
SourceActive:on \
Shape:0 \
Type:0 \
Fueltype:2 \ --This seems to be broken
Fuel:30.0 \
TempType:2 \
Temperature:300.0 \
SmokeType:2 \
SmokeDensity:2.0
Just seems something is mixed up.
If I check in the listener with $.fuelType it returns the value of 30 which happens to be the fuel amount that I set, instead of the integer value 0-2 for fuel type, none/add/set. TempType and SmokeType seem to be fine.

FFX 2.0a Creating Grid via MXS issue

Something strange happening with the preview window when I create a grid through maxscript.
I simulate the grid with the preview window open it updates as it should, ie the preview is showing the simulation as it progresses. When the sim is stop or finished the preview window retains the last frame, when I scrub it seems to loose connection with the sim data, ie it says "Frame Missing".
If I create an animation preview the resulting avi is correct.
If I render the render is correct.
For some reason the preview window is loosing the path to the sim data?
Here is the snippet I am using, there are no call to paths/gridtype ect.:
Code: FumeFX pos:[0,0,0] isSelected:on width:100 length:100 height:100 gridSpacing:1.0 \--Create the Basic Simulation Grid
SolverQuality:4 \--Add more Fume Properties to this list.
MaximumIterations:100 \
SimulationSteps:1 \
MaximumStride:0.5 \
TimeScale:1.0 \
Gravity:1.0 \
Buoyancy:1.0 \
Vorticity:0.5 \
XAxisTurbulence:0.0 \
YAxisTurbulence:0.0 \
ZAxisTurbulence:0.0 \
TurbulenceScale:20.0 \
TurbulenceDetail:1.0 \
TurbulenceSpeed:10.0
This works just fine in version 1.x
Any Ideas?

Initial state & Wavelet

I have simmed out an effect, saved the last frame of the sim as an initial state, loaded that initial state into fume. That is then re-simmed using the initial stae, but when I try to run wavelet overtop of it it doesn't allow me to. (the little run simulation button is greyed out.) Has anyone else run into this?

Hi,
We have a motion blur probleme, when I render fumeFX with matted object the motion blur is way off with the other image rendered.
Our pipeline is on Softimage and we are rendering with 3delight. I've tryied using scanline and mental ray, but the motion blur doesnt match Softimage 3delight.
Maybe finalRender is going to be more acurate?
Thanks,

FumeFX for liquid simulation

I was wondering what the challenges are to get FFX to simulate liquids rather than gases?
I've seen very few FFX driven liquid sims, apart from some Zero Gravity ones, where particles are driven by the sim and meshed.
Are the theories behind them similar or totally different, as it seems a natural evolution to give Fume the ability to do something similar to RealFlow/Glu3D?
Thanks,
Steve

'backburner retime simulation' problem

Though backburner default simming works, does 'post processing - retiming'? When a slave picks up the 'post processing - retime' job, it just skips over the simulation retime step and starts rendering frames.
--max2008 64bit
--windows xp 64bit
--16gb ram
--fumefx 2.0 standard and also SL
--local and also on network slave
