Saving a simulation...how?

I am having a tough time trying to figure out how I can save a simulation. I run a simulation, then...if I want to close out 3DS, I come back later and I have to re-run the simulation. How can I save it so that I don't have to re-run it each time?

"Create Image Channels" crashe Max9

Like in the Headline.
I can reproduce it this way:
-empty scene
-add an Afterburn-Atmospheric
-choose the "AfterburnRenderer" and check "create image channels"
-hit render
Result: an Assertion Error dialog pops up an tells me about an error "In file:'.\AfterBurn-Rend.cpp' -> Line: 446"
I have now the options "Continue" or "Try to Save & Quit".
Clicking "Continue" (with checked "Don´t show me this error again") chrashes Max to the Error-report-Tool.
May be a helpful additional information: Often when i render with Afterburn active i get a similar AssertionError, pointing to a file (i can´t remember exactly "D:/Max6/SDK/include/Point3.???". I know the path is something with "Max6" (i have Max9) and the file is named "point3.???" (not sure about the extension)
It is a big problem. At the Moment i´m using Afterburn in a TV-production - and would need some channels.

Animating FumeFX grid position

Maybe I get an answer here more quickly than trying to find it out msyelf: what if I animate the position of the FumeFX grid in space? Will its contents remain static (locked to world space) or will it also move (object space)?
Cheers!

these are the same setting.
same sample size.
same using the AfterBurn raytrace shadow.
and all.
but left side shadow is very noisy and It is not accurate.
One the fact that it is different is distance from the light.
right side light is very near.
but the left side light is too far.
![[Image: ABtest0207.png]](http://www.with.ne.jp/~neval/temp/ABtest0207.png)
Is there a solution method which is different?
I want to use the wide and long light.
best regards.

Heya Folks,
Here's the ad that I would have been fucked without fume We ended up rotoscoping dv footage of rugby players and using them as fume emitters. we had a smoke pass for the billows, a fume follow pflow pass for the grainier bits and a little bit of the footage mixed back in for definition.

Many thanks to everyone for the help along the way and Kresimir for the quick licensing!

FUME won't work

Hello,
I'm desperately try to make a scene working and I have a delivery deadline two days from now, but looks like FUME doesn't work on this scene.
I have several moving objects within the simulation box, everything looks proprerly set and I've just checked other similar scenes where everything seems to work.
Simulation starts and I can see the preview window showing everything in its place, but when I stop the simulation and I just move the animation slider, everything disappears, including voxel placeholders in the viewport. Of course nothing happen even when rendering!
Note that I'm keeping the FUME FX selected and if I should do the same steps in a completely new scene, everything's ok. The only difference is the number of srcobjects, which is quite high (more than 50).
I have Dreamscape objects (sea) in this scene as well, I don't know how to fix this problem and it's desperately urgent!
Please, could you help!?

We wanted to run a test using NR for our vehicle sequence (A6 and dust).
1. We set up 5 render nodes by installing the plugin on each.
2. Launched NetRender and found one of the render nodes was not rendering the smoke (it was just one initially).
3. We shutdown the server app and uninstalled then reinstalled the plugin.
4. The offending render node, now renders the smoke (render is still in progress so that could change).
5. Each of the render nodes created frames without smoke at one point.
There does not seem to be a pattern.
6. All render nodes are running Win XP home.
7. fxd files range from 4k for frame 0 to 1,596 for frame 360 (last frame)
8. fdc file is 418,310 kb
9. All fxd and the fdc files are located on a network resource.
Any help is appreciated. We need to be able to use this pugin with NR or it will not be of any value to us.
Thanks,
david
EDIT: it appears there are sequences of 6 consecutive or 12 consecutive frames that did not render smoke, so that rules out an individual node issue.
Interestingly, the larger fdx frames later in the render all rendered fine.
