I usually use Paramblock to Control fume Values per sources.. but not everyone has Tp so heres a Standard max Way example :
Basicly in the image you see that you can animate the Value of Fuel per source and control its curves in the track View .. that is the most simple way that i know off to do what i think your asking to do ..
