I added DS to a project I'm working on in 3ds Max 2022.3. I noticed some issues in order of importance:

Max crashes when using DS in VRay if you cancel a render but hit the Render button again in the VRay VFB. To avoid the crash, you need to cancel with the Max render dialog stop button, then close the VRay VFB--now you can render without a crash. This may be a Vray defect instead, but I've only seen this defect in Vray with DS scene.

When adding a Dreamscape Sky or Subsurface Atmospheric effect, the effect name is missing them the effects list. You can manually add the name in the name field, but the user should not have to do this.

DS Scene nodes are given a Baseobject name of "Object" in the modify tab instead of the class name they get in previous versions. This relates to some localization changes made in recent versions of Max's SDK. I will give a hint on fixing them when I'm back in front of code this week.

Hi All,

I've followed several tutorials online but seem to be getting similar results all round. the water appears too milky or almost metallic. We cant seem to figure it out. I wondered if it might be a gamma issue as the example water i see being used in the material slots are always darker than what is shown in mine. I've included screenshot of my materials, surface settings & Gamma.

can anyone cast any light on what might be going wrong please? I've posted a render on imgur. I cant seem to find a tutorial that matches our system settings to be able to follow.

i did a test and the milkyness disappears if vray is off and scanline renderer is on. but we need vray. does anyone know the correct vray settings?
The easiest way for me to build this would be to have access to all of the Cloud layers as an array as well as all the localized__# objects of each layer as an array. Using show() it looks like these properties are dynamic and not stored as arrays internally. Is there a function for accessing these? If there is a private one, could you expose that to MAXScript?
Just throwing this out for discussion. I'm pretty much infuriated by they way the developers of Vue have treated the customers, and I'm pretty close to giving them the finger forever for that treatment. The problem, of course, is that Vue is pretty slick.

How many users of Vue xStream/Dreamscape would be willing to walk away from E-On and put the money into DS instead? What features would it take to get Vue users to use DS instead?

For my money, the easier atmosphere editor and terrain editor are the features I need most. The procedural terrains with materials that spawn objects are also pretty cool. For the most part, the other features in Vue are of little interest to me since they largely replicate things you can do in Max anyway.

Just for conversation for when DS users drop into the board.
