Non clamped colors in 1.1? - lxdengar - 05-08-2008

Is there anything I need to do special in order to get non-clamped colors in 1.1?

Rendering some fire, I don't see anything above 1 when rendering exrs.

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - Rif - 05-08-2008

you have the fusion work render environment non clamped color checked in the channels ?

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - lxdengar - 05-09-2008

Yes, create channels is turned on, non-clamped color is checked. Should that allow me to see values above 1?

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - Rif - 05-09-2008

if your overbrighting , saving exr , you should theoricly be able 2 yes...
i found that in max 9 their was some weard cases where i couldnt get it working.. last time i checked in 2008 it was working ..

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - lxdengar - 05-09-2008

what are you rendering in (FR, scanline, Brazil)? Does this not work in Max 8?

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - Rif - 05-09-2008

always rendered everything i did in Fr .. but tested in Scanliner as well..

Never got it working in max 8 ..

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - lxdengar - 05-09-2008

Yeah, I tried max 8, with no luck.

This morning, I'm trying this in max 9, scanline. Fume 1.1, Fusionworks 1.1, non-clamped is checked. Rendering out an exr, 16 bit, non-real pixel.

Everything is still clamped at 1.

BTW, the 1.1 manual doesn't have any information about the non-clamped radio button. Its missing.

Edit: I've attempted EXR (16-bit nonRP), HDR (RP and non RP) and 32bit SGI Log TIFF. No dice.

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - lxdengar - 05-09-2008

Anyone tried this? This would be great to have. Is there anything else that i need to do in the render tab?

Hi,
You can see non-clamped colors only in rendered RLA or RPF images. Non-clamped channel must also be selected in rla/rpf file setup. Thanks for noticing that it's missing from the manual.

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - lxdengar - 05-13-2008

Thanks for the reply. I'd like to add to the wish list that this be added to the EXR file output. EXR is too important a format to not have this option in.

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - Rif - 05-13-2008

its working here in exr ! but not in max8 ..

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - lxdengar - 05-14-2008

I've tried EXR in max 9, with no luck.

Scanline - EXR 16 bit, no RealPixel, premult - not working.

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - lxdengar - 05-18-2008

Can I get the official word on this? Thx.

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - vjeko - 05-18-2008

It seems to work with EXR under Max 9, regardless of EXR settings (bits, alpha). But I had a rendering when the image was saved as pure black, so some issues might still exist. Still investigating.
Try the attached ultrasimple scene, just to make sure that everything is set up properly on your side. Non-clamped should have values of up to 10...

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - Rif - 05-19-2008

Confirmed here.. Vjeko's scene works under 2008 64 bit as well ..Checked with Fr and Scanline..

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - lxdengar - 05-31-2008

I must be missing something basic here. This is the test scene, scanline from Max9-64 bit.

EXR settings are 16-bit half, no Real Pixel, exponent 1, pre-mult.

Here's a capture in Nuke. Notice there are no values above 1.

What am I missing? Thanks for the help.

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - lxdengar - 06-02-2008

Anyone? If others are able to see non-clamped colors, I'm sure I'm just doing something silly.

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - Rif - 06-02-2008

MAybe Nuke needs something Special To understand this properly.. Something might need to be done in a Certain way or so .. cause in fusion its reading it no probleme ..

Re: Non clamped colors in 1.1? - lxdengar - 06-02-2008

Got it. Its not nuke, its user error, but I hope its a good bit of errata for everyone.

Rendering must be set to Material ID 1 on the rendering tab. Otherwise, no overbright data gets sent to the FusionWorks renderer. Mine was set to 0.

Thanks for all the help everyone, and sorry this one was so asinine.
