Transition between subsurface and above surface - Steve Green - 06-18-2007

Hi,

I've been doing a couple of shots recently which involved the camera breaking the surface, slowly.

Now, I have a slight problem where the SSS effect will just disappear to black as it moves across sea level, and I wondered if there was anything that can be done to fix this?

I tried changing the step level, and raising the SSS sea level, but nothing seems to fix it? Anyone else come across this kind of effect?

Thanks,

Steve

Hello,

The problem is when DS calculates that camera is above sea surface and not under.
In that boundary case you might expect problems and right now, there is no way to avoid it.

Hi,

that's a shame - I've had a couple of jobs where it's been asked for - sometimes it's quick enough not to matter, other times it's been a slow ascent. I'm sure there may be occasions where the camera is at water level for most of the shot which could be problematic.

Not sure if it's fixable in a future release, but it would be great if it could be.

Thanks,

Steve

Hello Steve,

I have added this on a wishlist.
Not sure if we can do this, but will definitely think about the solution.

Thanks,

there's always comping to work around it, but if it could be done in camera that would be great.
