FumeFX 7.5 [Maya] update - Kresimir Tkalcec - 10-05-2026

Sitni Sati today announced FumeFX 7.5 for Autodesk Maya. The update introduces a Multigrid PCG solver that runs GPU simulations up to twice as fast as the previous PCG solver.
FumeFX 7.5 also adds a Post Load stage that changes cached simulations as they load. Artists can add detail, retime playback and sharpen results interactively, then bake those changes only when they are final.

Faster GPU Simulation
The new Multigrid PCG solver delivers up to 2x the GPU simulation speed of the standard PCG solver. Faster pressure solves mean shorter iteration loops for fire, smoke and explosion shots. With Multigrid PCG in place, the legacy CG solver has been retired, which simplifies solver choice for artists.

Change Cached Simulations Without Re-Simulating
FumeFX 7.5 adds a Post Load rollout that applies detail, timing and sharpening to cached simulations at load time:
  • Fast Upres: adds detail to a cached simulation as it loads.
  • Retimer: changes playback speed on load. Live cache retiming now lives here too, for interactive speed adjustment.
  • Unified Sharpen: shader sharpening moves to Post Load and works the same across all shaders.
  • Memory cache: keeps loaded frames in RAM, so Upres, Retime and Sharpen stay interactive while scrubbing and during playback.
When a look is approved, the Post Processing rollout can bake Retime, Fast Upres and Sharpen to disk using the same settings as Post Load.

Rendering and VDB Pipeline
OpenVDB interchange is also smoother:
  • A Y-Up option for importing .vdb caches from other applications.
  • Channel assignments are remembered when the same .vdb cache is re-selected.
  • A new Assign button re-maps VDB channels directly, without going through the FumeFX menu.
