Preview is extremely slow - Rabatscher - 02-14-2013

Hi,

I just bought the latest FumeFX package (Max2012 64Bit) and installed it on my workstation which happens to be a relatively powerful Dual Xeon X5650 (6-core) @2.67 GHz - 48GB Ram - Quadro4000

I started watching the tutorials and could see the performance of that thing during preview. Per frame it was very fast in the videos...

I then started by just using a FumeFX simple source and hit the preview button which opened the preview window and the solver. Unfortunately each frame took something like one and a half seconds to compute which is way too slow when comparing it with the video tutorials, where each frame took something like .3 seconds!

Ok - so to check I installed it on my second workstation (Dual Xeon E5-2630 @2.00 GHz - 32GB Ram - Quadro 4000) and it works like a charm.

Can anybody help? What could be the issue? I tried everything (Spacing, Scratch Disc to SSD, Quality settings, GPU rendering...) nothing worked...

Please!
Thanks in advance
Jürgen

Hello,

It is hard to tell, but try to play with number of threads that FumeFX use during the simulation.

Hi Kresimir,

I tried nearly everything thats possible... The threads make no difference. In general parameters the sim uses almost no RAM at all and still renders very slow. Could it be that it is a problem with a driver? Maybe the Nvidia Max performance driver or something like that?

Jürgen

Hi again,

so... it looks like I just beat the problem with one of the lamest solutions... I kicked the complete internet security and firewall (Trend Micro) and it works smoothly. I didn't think of that because there is an anti virus software running (avast) on the other machine and this one doesn't make any difference. So, sorry for the hard time...

Trend Micro Internet Security - put it on the watchlist!!

Jürgen

Well, that was a really good detective work Smile
You can probably put .fxd and .fdc files to antivirus' exception list, so that they don't get checked ?
