Cache Map to disk is their for a simple reason :

When you want to re-render the same Camera view from the Same Sims again and again , you do not need to Recalculate Illumination map .. if you check this checkbox , it will calculate it once and next time you hit re-render again , it should not recalculate it but read the IM from the Cached File on your local hardrive..

thats the idea behind this..

thanks alot for quick relpy, rif Big Grin

So it's better to use this function "Cache Map to Disk" when you have "fixed simulationed FumeFX container", and dont want to calculate IM, but do want to change the shading colour, for incoming director's small changes am I right?

and another question related this IM is...
In terms of creating IM mapping/and Fluid mapping, i was wondering how these maps are created...
Are these maps created based on...
+ Rendering camera Positioning?
+ or like HDRI maping (like image mapped on a sphere)?
+ or directory 3D boxel mapping? or another ? Big Grin

Dont Wonder too much .. Wink

-FM is a Worldspace Map displacing through the Fluid Flow .
-Understand IM as a Shadow Map Baking Solution and reprojection in the volume..Think of it from the light maybe ? Smile
