Mental ray overlapping grids
#1
Hi
i am having issues with overlapping Fume grids with mental ray.
We are currently re-doing a project from final render to mental ray.
Final render with Fusionworks is fine.
Now with mental ray im getting black box with harsh line in the overlap.
This is just a small test scene to show you the problem.
Default MR setting in Max with Autovolume on.

Running:
Max 2014
Fume 3.5.4

Any suggestions?

Hello,

There could be one more thing other than Autovolume.
Make sure that grids does not perfectly overlap on any axes... this can make issue with any renderer.

Please let me know.

Thank you for the scene.
We will look into this, but it seems that both volumes are not mixing at all - they're just overlapped depending on which grid was rendered last. I'm not sure what we can do about it.
A simple scene made out of yours is attached. Render frame 0 and frame 1 and see the difference. The difference is only a slightly changed location of one of the grids.

Hi Kresimir
thanks for taking a look at this.
I take it that this is a mental ray issue then Wink

Thanks for your time

You're welcome.
I think this would blend properly in FumeFX/mental ray for Maya as mr implementation is different there. We'll look into this for 3ds max to see if there is a solution.
