Simulation continuation after a frame goes missing
#1
Hey All,

I simmed out some Fume, and then a wavelet simulation. During the simulation is errored saying that I was missing frame 117 (then it went on to waveletting the frames after). I went back in to investigate and, indeed, frame 117 was missing. Not sure how or why, but its gone.

If I move the post-117 FXD files and try and resimulate from that frame, I get a message saying there is data up to 133 (the end of the sequence) and would I like to start there. I presume this information is coming from the FDC file. Is there a way to restart the simulation at frame 117-133 without resimming from the very beginning?

Thanks much!

Hi Todd,

Yes, sure. Just right click on FumeFX UI "Continue" button and new options will show up.

Probably a bit late for you now-But I found a way to do it by only simming that missing frame.
I had a situation where I overwrote a single frame by accident and wanted to 'replace' again with a correct frame (to avoid two days of re-simming the entire thing).

I used an initial state sim. If you do a File>Set initial state file it defaults to looking for a .fdc file. However you can filter it to also use regular .fxd files too. So I simply loaded the frame before the one I had buggered. Changed the Output Range to start /end frame the frame I wanted to regenerate and did a sim from initial state (for that one frame).
Worked flawlessly as the stop/continue was rebuilt as well.

Hi,
I tried to restart the simulation from the frame I had buggered with above two ways.

One is the way to do right click on FumeFX UI "Continue" button and select "Current Frame Output".
Another is to use an initial state sim.

The result of animation by resimulation is different from correct animation.
Both ways are the same result.

For example, I had crashed sim at 30 frame, so I resimulated 30-150.
Then I compare the .FXD over 30 frames that is resimulated 30-150 with that is simulated 0-150, these are different animation.

What's wrong?
Please help and tell me some solution.

Hello,

If you do not have exported all possible channels in fxd file, then continue will not work properly.
The best bet is to set appropriate interval for fdc files saving.
