Silence Install
#1
Hello !

I need to deploy FumeFX on ~150 nodes.
So i'm trying to make a silence installation for rendering only to batch it with Deadline.

I didn't find any information in doc or on the forum.
I've tryed to cmd :
.\FumeFX401R2015.EXE -?
.\FumeFX401R2015.EXE -s
.\FumeFX401R2015.EXE -gui=0

and some stuff like that (basic options i used to exec with vray or forest) but looks like the exe didn't have any help options.

How can i silence install FumeFX please ?

thanks

Hello,

This is an Installshield installation:
http://unattended.sourceforge.net/installers.php

However, you will first need to extract installation files as they're all packed inside exe file with PackagefortheWeb - any zip app can do that.

PackagefortheWeb also supports command switches as described in the url above, but it's easier to work with setup.exe directly.

I hope this helps.

Wow, that's pretty old school ^^

So here's what i've done, tell me what you think :

- I've unzip the FumeFX401R2015.EXE into a folder.
- Manually install with the extract setup.exe on a render node.
- This create a setup.iss in the C:\windows\ of this node.
- Copy this setup.iss with the extracted folder.
- Now i can batch the setup.exe on my render nodes, and it install FumFX silently.
BUT, this kind of manipulation has one problem : i can't give the IP of my Licence server.

This bring me a question :
I've 2 working licences shared over 3 workstations. And 4 simulations licences.
Do you recommend me to install a Simulation licence on all my render nodes, and when the limit of 4 is reach, then jobs are not pick up (for simulation only) or i need to make a specific pool of nodes that are allowed to simulate ?

Thanks !

Hello,

For rendering, you do not need FumeFX or FumeFXSL license, only the FumeFX/mental-ray shader licenses if you're rendering with mental ray.
If you have 4 SL licenses and you want to run FumeFX simulation on render nodes then only 4 at the time can simulate.

Yea i just need to install without linking to my licence server for rendering.

What i was asking was : do it worth to install all my render node as simulation node ?
So when launching a simulation job to deadline, i don't have to select on witch machine i send it.
And when 4 simulation are running at same time, others job are not picked up.

But i don't think this is the optimum way to do. I think i'll just install SL on only 4 dedicated machines and move on.

Hello,

It's the user preference how they want to use SL licenses.
Myself, I would install FumeFX in SL mode on the farm and held licenses on the license server and for simulation pick nodes with fastest processor and most memory (unless they're all identical machines).
