fume 4, cache writing slowdown
#1
trying out fumefx 4.0 before putting into production. when creating a new fresh test scene, ffx sims fast as expected (in a simple high spacing test scene). then test scene is saved to disk, and upon a resim, the cache writing is extremely slow. something happening when fumefx 4 has a filename to reference?

running win 7, simming to local drive. no previous slowdown with fumefx 3.x

Hello,

Nothing was changed about saving.
Maybe it is default caches loading slow down if you have render sharpening enabled.
This will be optimized and speed up for FumeFX 4.0.1 that should be out this week.

Thank you.

hi Kresimir, thanks for the response.

i don't have sharpening enabled and have tested it further. there is definitely something going on as soon as i save the scene to a filename. cache takes anywhere from 2x to 5x longer to save the cache data when simming. loading/scrubbing after simming is fast, so that seems to be ok. it's only when writing data.

here is a link to a screen capture showing the problem. thanks!

(right click to download - it's a 30mb .avi)

Hello,

I'm sorry, but I have never seen such behavior - it seems that caches are saved quickly, but something else is lagging ?
Are there any changes if you close the preview window ?

Thank you.

hi Kresimir,

no change in lag when i close preview window - have disabled antivirus, no change. standard windows 7 firewall. not sure what's going on. it's only after i save a scene. if i merge in fumefx rig from a saved scene into an unsaved 3dsmax session, it's fast again.

i think i've found something. when the scene is saved to the default windows user path (C:\Users\'user'\Documents\3dsMax\scenes) it sims quickly like before when the max session is unsaved, however when i save the scene to my own generated file path for projects, it sims very slowly.

this was reproducable in both 3dsmax2012 and 2015.

any thoughts on to why the sim speed is related to the 3dsmax scene file saved path? thanks!

Hello,

I really don't know what would it be as this is related to your system since we've never seen this before on any our systems.
