Network rendering calculations?
#1
Hi,

is it likely to be possible to use renderfarms to do calculations at some point?

Even if they couldn't share calculations within a single grid, it would be useful if you could assign them to multiple grids within a single scene.

Thanks,

Steve

Yeah that'd be very handy - As you know since a frame of a fluid sim is dependant on it's previous frame it's hard to spread the calculations out. I find it a huge problem with realflow only having one machine to sim on as inevitably you only have so many man hours on a job so you need to get through as many different setups as possible to see how they react with different parameters.

It'd be really good to have an option in fume similar to particle flow that if it doesn't have fxd files for the scenes it's rendering to calculate them and put them out to disk so that you could set up 4 different sets of parameters on a sim and put each one out to a different machine to calculate and then load them in to check renders. Or to step further with it, have a standalone fume solver app though I'd say that's a huge job requiring it's own file format and so on. An option to make fxd files if they aren't there would be great though.

Really liking the program so far though, it seems to be a lot more stable than realflow when changing between low quality and high quality settings of the same sim so you get a similar result with more detail...

Yikes, that was me by the way.

We are preparing a "sim only" version of FumeFX.
This will be a UI limited version of FumeFX where you will be able to install it on a computer and run a simulation, with just a few parameters available.

We are still working on details, but a full FumeFX license (the one you already have) will include 1-2 sim-only licenses for free and extra "sim only" license cost will not go over $99.

This is going to be really handy for multi seat max houses! Would there be any way to get fume to calculate in a non interactive, network render copy of max? So you could have an interactive seat of max, set up five different fume setups and send each to a single machine in the farm and have them save out the fxd files?

Hello,

We will try to do all this through 3ds Max scripting - it should be possible.

That would be awesome. But it would then also not be possible to distribute ONE simulation across several machines? I mean, just as it is the case for "distributed rendering" as opposed to standard network rendering, where you can bind all CPUs of a network to the same task.

Cheers!

Btw: FUMEFX ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Extremely well done, Kreso! :-D

Hey Schloerby !

Thanks ! I'm very glad to hear that FumeFX works well for you.
For FumeFX 1.x distributed simming will not be possible and we will have to leave it for next major update.
