A really far way i did once iss:
Basicly only fo a Frame, not Animations.
Combine FFX with PFlow, once Particles are there use them with Blob-Mesh. Convert/Snapshot the Blob-Mesh and unwarp. Now render to Texture (as far as i can remember, you can include Atmospherics in RTT).
