I'm trying to get Afterburn installed (Max 2022, Win 10) I already have FumeFX installed and running OK.
I ran the installer as an Administrator and it seems to have installed fine. However when I run Max I get the following error:

DLL <C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2022\Plugins\AfterWorks\AfterBurn\Afterburn.dlr> failed to initialize.
Error Code 127 - The specified procedure could not be found.
I've checked the Afterburn plugins folder and there are 4 files there:
ABShadowMap.dlr
AfterBurn.dlo
AfterBurn.dlr
AfterBurnPFlow.dlo

There is no Afterburn in my Environment and Effects dialog. But I do have Afterburn Glow and also Sticky Particles.

Hi,

I try doing the tutorials that come with Afterburner, I do the first one about the octane shader and as long as I don't try to render to a larger size then the default 320x240. it works fine, but the minute I up the resolution to 1920x1080 or 800x600. and hit render it crashes 3dmax to the desktop. Everytime.

So I thought the tutorial were old, so I created on from scratch... same thing render in 320x240 no problem. Change size of render... booom it crashes.

I have the latest afterburn 4.2.3 and 3dmax 2019.3.

has anyone else had this problem... or is this a known bug with the software. Any help would be much appreciated.

OK, I updated to AB 4.2.2 but it did not solve the scale/color over time problems I'm having in AB.

I'm trying to do a fire/smoke setup like the AB Tut3 tutorial.

If I do the AB Tut3 tutorial regarding the explode daemon, all works as expected... the particles grow from small to large over their lifetime. Likewise, the color changes over the lifetime from fire to smoke (orange to black).

But in my actual scene setup, (if I turn on the 'Show in Viewport' button) and scroll through the animation... the particles never seem to change size. Also regarding changing color, when copying the exact steps that were used in Tut3, the particles never switch to orange early in life to black late in life.

These are not exotic setups at all... at this point, I am just mimicing the steps used in Tut3.

(I am trying to make a simplified scene that shows my problems but haven't had success yet as when I do a 'Save Selected' from the actual scene, the resulting scene has a wacked PFlow setup... trying to get this sorted).

Any idea what I'm doing wrong when trying to mimic Tut3?

Thanks!

Win7/MAX2014

I am returning to using AB after a long absence. I am having some problems with AB and decided to check for updates. I was running version 4.1.something and saw there was a 4.2.2 update. I decided to install the latest version to see if it resolved my problems.

(In years past, I thought the updates were in easy EXE installers). Using Control Panel>Programs, I uninstalled the Afterburn 4.1.something version.

I downloaded the 4.2.2 zipfile and extracted it. I saw a TXT file with instructions indicating copy these files here, those files there, etc. I did that.

Now when I start the AfterFLICS_tools.exe, it shows a license for AfterBurn 4.1.3 (shouldn't it show 4.2.2?).

I start MAX2014 and create some AB stuff... all seems to work fine and shows AB 4.2.2. But when I go to try to open the AB tutorials... they are now gone. And AB no longer shows as installed in Programs.

How do I get all my AB tutorials and sample files back? Do I have to install the older AB 4.1.something version EXE again and then do the 4.2.2 update without uninstalling the 4.1.?

What do I need to do on all the render nodes to get the 4.2.2 installed?... just the copying described in the TXT file?

Thanks!
