after 4 minutes in your scene ..
if you want less wavy , lower the xyz turbulance gradually ..

I'm new, too, and played around with the flame to get it to look like the tutorial. And I had trouble. I had all of the same settings, but the flame didn't look the same. I started playing with the Fuel AFC, moving one and several vertices around. The idea is to vary the opacity of the flame from the outside edge to the center. If you do that, you should get a better flame.
