3dsmax closes when using Dreamscape preview (DirectX 9.0c)..
#1
Hello,

Is there a problem when using Dreamscape 2.5c and DirectX 9.0c (3dsmax9 64-bit).

1. Created a Dreamscape Sun
2. Added the dreamscape module
3. Clicked the preview button, moved the cloud display around and hit the refresh menu item (no problems).
4. Added a camera and switched to camera view
5. Repeated the preview and after a couple of refreshes 3dsmax closes completely.

I don't have any problems using OpenGL.

I get the same problem. I have tested it thoroughly on max 9-32 and 64, max 2008-32 and 64, in open gl, directX, and Maxteam. Both on a quadro 3450 and 1500. using XP 64 on a hp xw9300 2xopteron 285, 8gb ram. Both the cards were up to date bios and driver.

We just purchased Dreamworks yesterday. I am already fed up and regret convincing my boss it was a good purchase!

Why is it that every bit of software I touch, DOES NOT WORK!?!? I have spent SO MUCH TIME messing around with:

Power NURBS pro
Deadline
After Effect 7 and 8

Forums, email, international phone calls in the middle of the night. All time wasted on badly written software, which ultimately results in the customer paying too much for a shit job.

And the thing that really gets me is that WE PAY GOOD MONEY FOR THE PRIVALAGE!

I can live without flashy upgrades. I would give up all the nice new features in any of my software, in exchange for stable versions.

I think the software industry is going down the wrong path. “must produce new versions every 12months. must keep shareholders happy, just take the alpha version and call it final. Let the customers work out the bugs for us.”

I used to work as an engineer. Working with 3d BREP CAD software. IT NEVER CRASHED! EVER! CAD software is like a rock, animation software crumbles the moment you look at it.

A note to all developers, shareholders and the rest:

I AM NOT A BETA TESTER!! I AM A PAYING CUSTOMER!!! SELL ME STABLE SOFTWARE!!!

Dear ogdgs,

Problem with DreamScape preview window crash is that we cannot reproduce it on any machine and OS and 3ds max we have here (XP, Vista, 32 bit, 64 bit, Athlon, Intel core2 duo, max 9, max 2008).

Now that we got total of three detailed bug reports with hardware specs, the best to our knowledge, DreamScape preview window crash is tied only to Opteron CPUs.

Since we do not have Opterons, we were not able to find this very obvious bug during beta testing.
Crashes and bugs are natural (unfortunately) 'by product' of software development, but we're taking care of ours.

I'm not sure about your reseller, but Turbo Squid offers a 30 money back.
I will send them your email and I am sure that they will be able to allow you to return software and get a refund.

Best regards,

Hi,

I’m not interested in a refund, I just want the software to work. I am very impressed with what Dreamscape can do. It is very user friendly and provides quick effective results. This is partly why I’m so frustrated that I cant use it properly.

Thank you for replying so swiftly, that was unexpected. I’m afraid that my frustration today is emphasised by past experience with the above software. These developers have not been so quick to respond.

I will take you up on your offer (by email: If we can get a bit of your time for testing new builds, we'd probably be able to fix this bug remotely. I can start sending your builds for 32 bit max 9 ASAP if you agree.).

Hopefully we can find a solution.

Thanks

Oliver

Hi

I have another bug for you:

Create a terra
Open editor
Generate grid
Place a map in the “texture map paint”
Paint…
Change segments value
Regenerate grid
Paint…..

Crashes instantly. I assume this is because the texture map is now the wrong size. If you recalculate the map before you regenerate the grid, it does not crash. Could do with a failsafe in here to prevent the crash.

Thanks

Oliver

Tomorrow I'll email you a DreamScape build that will (theoretically) eliminate all possible causes for this crash.

I can understand your frustrations when you end up with useless software, and I hope that we will turn you into another happy customer Smile

It's not limited to opterons. I have this same problem with my dual xeon 3.6 GHz boxx workstation.

Hello.

Although this topic is very old, the problem is not yet fixed. The preview is not useable. When I drag-move the preview a few times, it crashes. Maybe a memory allocation problem?

My configuration:
Vista 64
Intel Skulltrail System with 8 cores.
8 GB of Ram
Max 2009 64

Anything I can do to help fixing this issue?

Helllo,

TurboSquid is doing installs and we're waiting for them to be finished.
I hope next week new updates will be released.

Thank you,
