waves\foam, some questions
#1
Hello, first i want to introduce my self.
My name is Stig Atle Steffensen.
i work for National Oilwell varco, as design engineer.

We recently bought dreamscape to help cut down the time we use on making good waterscapes etc, and to up the quality of our work.

I've been testing for some days now, and i must say i really like working with this plugin.

but there are a few things i cant figure out..

We make oilrigs in 3d, and put them in the sea, what would be nice, was if the foam would be made automaticly around the legs of the platform,
and i also thought i could make the waves hit it, and then the waves would act as if they went back aswell, because of the force.

The platforms themselves are rigid..

I looked around on the forum, found a post of someone asking about how to make the waves bounce when they hit a pier, the answe was that that cant be done with the "normal waves", only the wakes created by other objects does this.. is there no work-around for this issue?

Hello Stig,

DreamScape SeaSurface waves are procedural and they are not capable of giving a true dynamics interaction with objects. Since, this has been a very frequesnt wish, we will think of ways to couple procedural waves into DreamScape Dynamcis for next major release.

Thank you for feedback.

thank you.

I thought this was something that worked, that was one of the reasons why we bought it. to make all of this work more or less automaticly..

Bust still, is there a work-around?

What if i animated a invisible box, and made that one make wakes, as big as waves, would it then "reflect" on pillars etc?

Just to make it clear;
The waves that are default does not "rebounce" when they hit stuff.

But if you calculate (as with the floating ball example) the ball makes wakes in the water, that has "normal" waves.

Then why wont a pillar that's standing still not affect the waves?..
so you cant do this, even with simulation?

If you use Dynamics Daemon, any waves created by the interaction of geometry and Daemon will be able to interact and deflect from other objects, including unyielding ones.

You might go with your idea of having a box that will create big splash waves that will interact with pillars. Looking forward to hear about results.

I would be very interested to know if you had any success with this. I was working on a very similar project at the end of 06, with a drilling platform out in the ocean and was wondering how I could create the foam around the legs. Can you share on how things turned out for you and an images?
