Setup failed to run installation: The Remote Procedure Call Failed.
#1
As the title says.

I'm getting this error when trying to install the plugin for max.

"Setup fialed to run installation: The remote procedure call failed."

I'm running as an administrator.

I'm running Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise
Version 10.0.19043 Build 19043

This is happening on every plugin I try to install for fume.

FumeFX 5, and also tried the beta FumeFX 6

Thanks for any help!

Hello,

Could you try to right click on the exe and choose to extract it?
That will create Disk1 folder and there will be a setup.exe file within that you should start.
At which screen it reports this error, if any screen opens.

I can send you zip files for FumeFX 6 beta 10 if nothing works, just please let me know which 3ds max version you use.

I extracted it for Max 2021 and it did the same thing.

I'm on a work computer that's connected to a network so I'm wondering if this is a permissions thing that I just don't have?

One thing to note. I HAVE to run it by right-clicking and doing "Run as Administrator" then I get the error "Remote Procedure Call failed"

BUT if I just run it without using the administrator option (with the right-click) I get this error:

Are you working directly on the machine, or remotely ?
If working remotely then maybe some permissions are not set or maybe antivirus. It's hard to tell.

If locally, you can try to copy exe to your desktop, right click and choose Properties -> Compatibility to run in compatibility mode - try from windows XP and up.

I have the machine here so I'm working directly on it.

I tried all the different compatibility modes from XP up to Windows 8 and same error... sigh.

Hello,

Really don know what could cause this - never had such a case as I can recall.

In the meantime, I have created you a .zip with plugin files for you. However you will need AfterFLICS installalled as well.

https://www.afterworks.com/temp/FFX6B10_R2021.zip
Unpack those files to 3ds max plugins folder and add following lines to plugin.ini (en-US folder) and update [path to your max 2021]

AfterworksCommon=[path to your max 2021]\plugins\Afterworks\Common
FumeFX=[path to your max 2021]\plugins\Afterworks\FumeFX

Copy FumeFXShader.dll from MaxToA folder to C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\MAXtoA_2021

I hope you can make it work.

Thanks man, could you possibly do this for 2018?

We have 2021, but I'm running it over a network tool. So I got my IT person to give me a local 2018 install. (They don't have 2021 for local install)

Also we have a license for 5 as well. Do you have the plugins for 5?

Nope, sorry.
Max 2019 is a minimum we're supporting.
