fume 4.0 questions
#1
Hey

So, last night i installed 4.0 to start playing around, and i ran into a few things i am wondering if someone could enlighten me about.

1. When simulating using the new solve i am not getting 100% cpu usage. Its fast, quite a lot faster than the old solver, but i imagine using 100% cpu instead of 65% would be benefitial Smile

2. This might be me not being able to find things, but i cannot find the inputs for colors on fire and smoke?

Ok, now back to blowing stuff up

Hello Peter,

The CPU utilization with new solver is getting lower when using CPUs with many cores as it requires more synchronization than the CG solver.
From our experience, even on 2x8 cores Xeon with QCG CPU utilization of ~64%, it is a lot faster than the CG.
As always, we will look if further optimizations are possible.

Color ramps are located under the Fire Color Tab and Smoke Color Tab rollout.

For VDB output choose VDB under Files of type list box located at the bottom of the files save dialog.

Hello,

In Maya, rollouts are not easily interpreted as open/closed - I missed them few times as well.

In the future, we might use the FumeFX for 3ds max UI layout with a floater dialog with better and cleaner controls.
