quickest way to render Depth of field

Hey Guys,

can anyone please share with what would be the quickest way to render Depth of field with FumeFx? I'm not looking for a solution at post with a Zdepth pass, but DOF at render time. I have transparent smoke overlapping in the same grids sometimes and for that matter the Zdepth is absolutely useless.

Thank in advance, kinda crucial that i find a solution asap, my shots look way too flat sometimes because of that.

ANyone any experience with FinalDOF or others?
