Is this fixed in version 1.2c? I am able to render in mental ray with this option checked with no problem.

We're still looking into this issue.
Problem is that mental ray filter maps differently than 3ds max.
As a solution, you can use Smoke procedural map instead of Noise, which
renders in mental ray similar as in a Scanline.
