Viewport Display Slow... just me?
#1
Just curious if you guys are having a similar experience wtih AB4. The viewport speed is horrendously slow (using max2008) with both circles OR spheres enabled.

Not yet, but I"m still going to assume that Direct3d is going to be the fastest. I'll see if I can get it installed for max9 and see if there is any difference there. ...in 2008 it's at the point where I can display show shape instances way faster than I can draw circles or spheres. I'll muck around a bit and see if I can narrow it down. I just wanted to know if anybody else noticed this.

...started fresh this time -- seems to be ok. Maybe it's just that scene for some reason... *shrug*

This is not true with particles.. never been .. good with big meshes and caching is Directx but Particle work purely is Opengl All the way .. you should give it a try Wink

cheers,

I have tried, and almost always Direct3d is much more usable than opengl for me. Opengl acceleration hasn't been changed in a while either, whereas direct3d is what autodesk has focused their efforts on improving.

..on another note (fume related) in max9,32 if i use d3d max will crash if i do too much with moving windows around / opening / closing preview window and stuff (confirmed on more than just my machine) max9 64 works fine however. (which i tend to use anyway)

Software mode with just particles is friggin sweet though when drawing as dots! Big Grin OGL and D3D seem to keep up now with larger particle counts where software used to be faster (with just dots!)

--confirmed with psychosilence -- he says its way slower in 2008 than in max9

Hi Solitude,

hmm.. I'm using d3d all the time and never seen crash when working in viewports.
Do you maybe have some steps we can repro here ?

Thanks
