Preview -> Play Preview does nothing
#1
Howdy,

I'm using FumeFX 1.0a on 3ds Max 2008 32-bit on Windows Vista (32-bit). When I click on Preview -> Make Preview, I can see progress being made in the preview window (e.g. the flame, smoke, etc) appear fine. Then when I click the Preview menu and select Play Preview, nothing happens. I checked the online Help and this forum and found nothing about this problem. Can anyone tell me what the expected behavior is? I was thinking that the frames from the FumeFX preview window would be compiled into an AVI movie or such so that I could review the FumeFX preview animation in realtime using Windows Media Player or similar.

Thanks for any info!

Hello Bob,

Under Vista, there is a different Windows player than on XP on win2k, so FumeFX simply cannot find it.
You can play it manually, until we release FumeFX 1.1.

Hi Kresimir,

Thanks for the reply! I see in Vista that the executable is named 'wmplayer.exe' instead of the 'wplayer.exe' for WinXP and 2K.

In FumeFX 1.1, can you add a text field with browse button in the preferences that allows the user to specify a path to any media player, including VLC for example? When we go to Preview - > Play Preview, it could invoke whatever player we want with the preview file as a parameter? Then it would be a simple matter to update the path to the executable rather than hard coding the value in the executable binary.

Thanks again, and keep up the great work!

Hi Bob,

Thank you for suggestion.
We'll try to make it automated and play with default player, so that user won't have to worry about additional parameter.

Kresimir
