Vista x64 preview problem
#1
Trying to make a FFX 1.0a symulation preview, max9 x64 SP2 on Vista Ultimate x64 crash.
max9 x32 on Vista x64 does the preview without any problems.

Personnal opinion.. doing productions on Vista is Not a good idea..

Xp Pro 64 is solid .. like the nice old Nt4.0 windows.. eh

That dosnt mean it should crach though..

I´ve got the same Problem on Vista 64, Fume Previews are crashing. I guess it´s using an 32bit video codec which is not working on 64 bit windows /64 bit max ? Would be better to choose your own codec for previews at all, not just because of the crash. Besides this vista 64 is a great OS, no problems as soon as you deactivate UAC. Very stable and fast for me...

I have done just a few sims in Vista 64 / max 9 64..I haven't had that problem with the Fume Previews.

Vista 64 has worked flawlessly with both max 9-32 and max 9-64. It has been great to calculate the sims in max 64, then render them in max 32 (my render farm is 32bit only).

Bandu, thanks for testing all the different systems.

In my opinion this problem is because of the lack of some avi codec in x64 systems. x64 application can use ONLY x64 bit video codecs, as far as i know. This is the reason that we can´t use quicktime any more on max64, for example. I guess fume use one of the standard 32bit codecs of windows and this leads to crash. I hope we will get some codec selection in future releases, like in the max preview window. At the moment there are some quiet old codecs in ther like "microsoft video 1" (stoneage), but better then nothing.

You talking about animation previews right, an not the actual sim preview window. The lack of 64-bit codecs in 64-bits os's is still something to desired.
