FFX source, smoke from fire
#1
Have tried to do this ages ago. Thought I'd try again since I'm doing a house fire shot. Need to sim fire in a first sim box. Then use FFX source to read fire and velocity data from the first sim and birth smoke from it in second sim box. Have tried many variations, including effectors to create smoke in 2nd box where fire values are found - can't get it to work. Any thoughts or possibly a sample sample scene to show how to wire that up? Thanks a ton.

Note: and if this was broken several releases back (3.x.x, 4.x.x), could you also tell me what is the minimum version I should be using to do this in? I'm simming several different versions of fumefx on different boxes for different reasons. I've seen release notes, and I am doing 'read' not 'set' in the FFX source.

Any thoughts? Would be great to incorporate into the current project. Deadline approacheth.

Currently I'm birthing particles from the fire sim and simming smoke from that, but would be much simpler to do this correctly.

Hello,

All I could think of is that you need to have exported all the channels from the main grid.
On the FumeFX-FumeFX source you might want to set it to Free flow type and also you need to read Temperature if you have fire.
There are no knows bugs in FumeFX 4.1.1 regarding this source type.

Hi Kresimir,

Thanks very much. I have all the channels needed. Would you know if this wasn't working in 3.5.4? I think that's the version I'm running on this box. I'll also try the other ideas. Thanks again!

Hello,

Do not have any record for the 3.5.4, but there are some fixes in version 3.5, so it should work in 3.5.4.
You can try in version 4 and see if there's any differences.
