particles vs nparticles
#1
hey,

I noticed that you don't need to cache your particles in order for fume to show them, but you need to cache your nparticles..
otherwise the fume particle source won't show/use them..

is this a bug?

thx

no its not a bug, that just the way that things works with nParticles...

meaning, they have to be chached in order to work?
but standard particles not?

thx

yes, you must cache them if you wanna to see the radius, with regular particles fume works without caching, that's why in 99% i use regular particles Wink

i got that.. was just wondering, if it may come some time.. or that's just the way it is Wink

its actually not bad to chache the particles, so they don't change..
its not really a problem.. just wanted to know, if it may come..

Hello,

FumeFX does not make difference between those two particle systems - it sees both systems as particles. It must be something internal in nparticles that requires caching.

It just took me about an hour to figure out that legacy particles worked and nparticles didn't without caching to bad I hadn't found this thread before that... Smile it's a fairly important detail as it just appears that it doesnt' work at all.
