FFX crashes when loading an agt file to graph.
#1
Hi,
is there a known issue with this?
Max 2016, FFX 4.0, Windows 10

I asked around and it seems more users experience this also on other configurations (ie. Max2015 and even FFX 3.5)

No, it crashes as soon as the file manager window opens up - there is no time to select a file or even a folder, just boom - 3ds max disapears Sad

Hello,

It is possible that on some systems modified Windows file open dialogs with Gradient display cause problems.
We are not able to reproduce this bug, but will keep an eye on it.

We're talking about it with Allan McKay on his VFX TDT course.
Some users report that disabling the preview window, disabling GPU preview AND/OR moving to the first frame sometimes fixes the issue. Unfortunately not for me, I just make a fresh scene, create an FFX grid, go to properties, righclick fire gradient (or smoke - doesn't matter), load gradient, the file manager window pops up, and PUFF - Max is gone Sad

Hi Filip,

Can you please send me an email if you are willing to test few FumeFX builds so we can pinpoint the crash and fix it?

Thank you.

We have been having this same issue on all of our workstations running windows 7, max 2015 and 2016 at Uncharted on FFx versions 3.5.5, 4.0 and 4.0.1.
I just tried version 4.0.2 on another machine running windows server 2012 r2 and max 2015. This is the first configuration I have used that didn't crash when loading a gradient since version 3.5.5.
I can try 4.0.2 on one of the windows 7 machines to see if that resolves the issue.

Hi,

I experienced the same problem during Allans FumeFX fundamentals tutorial. With a new scene file, switching to key mode before loading the gradient has solved the problem, but this solution didn't work for the original scene file.
Saving is possible without any Problems in both cases.

Windows 7 Professional
3ds max 2015 SP3
FumeFX 4.0.2

Kind regards,
Henning

I had this problem for a long time and never dealt with it because I would just make new gradients every time. That got old and I finally forced myself to solve it.

I believe it is a permissions issue. If you go into your fume preferences and change the directory from the default directory (in 3ds max home dir), to a directory that you know you have permissions, your problem should go way.

I hope this helps someone.

This seems to be fixed in the latest release. I haven't had any crashes when loading a gradient file when using 4.05

Thank you for the feedback.
We have indeed fixed for bugs that could lead to such a crash and I'm glad to hear that it works across different systems.
