Stability issues - PeterH_RMD - 11-09-2007

Hooray, we purchased FumeFX. Big Grin

I Uninstalled the demo, then installed the full version to the same location. However, if I now try to open the scene I was working on with the demo, I get an error message of missing .DLO files, even though the files it complains about do exist. :? Aren't the demo's .dlo files compatible with the full version?

Also, if I start afresh, add a light to the scene, pick the light to FumeFX, then access the "Atmosphere & Effects" tab in the light's menu and click Add, 3DS Max crashes. :x It occasionally crashes elsewhere too, usually when the Preview window is open.

I'm running the FumeFX 32-bit version under 3DS Max R9, Windows XP, using the TurboSquid floating license.

Hello Peter,

Release version and demo version are not compatible. It was intentionally designed to be that way.
Demo version is used to "test-drive" plugin and it even does not allow saving of any parameter.

Thank you for a bug report. We're looking into it.

UPDATE:

Crash problem is related to AfterBurn Glow effect in 3ds max 9/2008 and we will post an update when ready.

OK, good to know. Thank you for your quick response. Smile

(Yes, I also have AfterBurn installed on the same machine, sorry I forgot to mention it)

Re: Stability issues - PeterH_RMD - 03-06-2008

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it, or them, if you played both. Smile

We've now updated to FumeFX v1.1, but it still seems to crash 3DS Max 9 a lot when rendering. First I tried it with an omni light (with atmospheric shadows on, using AB Shadow Map), and it doesn't crash immediately any more, like it used to. But now it crashes while rendering a sequence of frames (I just made a quick smoke test).

I even tried removing and disabling the light, but it still crashes.

Is this a known issue? Would you like me to send you the test scene to reproduce the crash?

Peter,

Talking about AfterBurn 3.2 or 4.0 Shadow Map ?
Do you have AfterBurn on that scene as well so you need that map on FFX light ?

Thanks,

Kresimir

Re: Stability issues - PeterH_RMD - 03-06-2008

It's AfterBurn 3.2 shadow map (haven't updated yet). There are no AfterBurn emitters in the scene, but I thought it would be more efficient than 3DS Max's built in shadow maps. Should I use another shadow type instead?

Re: Stability issues - sitnisati - 03-06-2008

There is no difference what shadow type you use since 'Atmosphere Shadows'
is a completely different interface.
I suggest that you use 3ds max's shadows types (any you like).
