sea material not updating between renders - mcvltd - 10-11-2006 I'm running max8 sp3, dreamscape 2.5b and vray1.47.03 - and am having problems when tweeking the values of the sea material and the sub-surface settings. It seems to be ok for the first couple of renders (or so) then after that it doesn't seem to want to update - even if I go to extremes on the settings. My only way around this so far is to apply a vray material to the sea surface and use the ground colour in dreamscape to give me my sub-surface colouring. But I'm guessing this isn't the best way to use dreamscape! Anyone else have these problems? Here's an example of my current renders using the vray matl- note the lack of volumetric shadows in the water ![]() Thanks, Rob. - Steve Green - 10-12-2006 Hi, I've had some problems with Vray 1.5 and atmospherics in general, atmospherics popping on network renders, so I'm not sure if it's entirely down to Dreamscape. Unfortunately I'm in the middle of a job at the moment but it might be worth posting on the Chaos Group forum as well. Cheers Steve - sitnisati - 10-12-2006 Hello Rob, To be able to determine is this bug about DreamScape or VRay, would you be so kind and try to render scene using a default Scanline renderer ? Regards, Kresimir - mcvltd - 10-12-2006 Ahh... I've found the problem guys - when I've been using a vray material for the sea surface I've altered the 'sun/scene' multiplier to 0 so that the light has no influence over the surface but still gives me a sky. When I switched back over to using the dreamscape sea material I forgot to set this back to 1..... not much of surprise that I wasn't seeing any changes!  Sorry for the false alarm, I promise not to post anything stupid again...... for at least a day or two!....... Thanks for your replies. Rob. - sitnisati - 10-13-2006 I'm glad that you have found a cause. You're always welcome ! Kresimir - hometime - 10-13-2006 Rob, Would you post he same renders with the changes you have made, I'd like to see how it influences your scene. Thanks, Don - mcvltd - 10-13-2006 Don, I haven't managed to get a good looking sea from using the dreamscape sea material yet - I know it's possible, just haven't understood how the subsurface thing works yet. I'll continue playing but may not post anything for a while. BTW- thanks for the cloud tips on your website
- hometime - 10-14-2006 I've spent quite a bit of time, on and off, experimenting with subsurface scattering but don't feel I have a very good grasp, or at least can do all that much with the feature. Glad the cloud stuff was helpful. Don
