Dreamscape 2.5.8 causes crash on fresh max 2017 Update 1 & 2 - marcus@yellowdog.co - 03-27-2018
Hi
if you do a fresh install of 3dsMax 2017 and the update packs 1 & 2 and then install dreamscape, Max crashes on load with the following error Error: “FileLink.dlu failed to initialize properly”
After some investigation, it seems that the file C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\en-US\plugin.ini is looking for the following folders
[Directories]
AfterworksCommon=C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\plugins\Afterworks\Common
DreamScape=C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\plugins\Afterworks\DreamScape
AfterworksOptional=C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\plugins\Afterworks\Optional
Civil View Plugins=C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\stdplugs\(CivilViewIO)
V-Ray main plug-ins=C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\plugins
V-Ray additional plug-ins=C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\plugins\vrayplugins
AfterworksOptionaldoes not exist - if I create the folder it then works ok.

Try to remove the "AfterworksOptional=C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\plugins\Afterworks\Optional" as it probably does not exists.
3ds max had a bug and crashes if folder does not exists.
