right now the renders seem clamped at 8bit even if i use exr.

FumeFX does not clamp colors in any way.

how can i get it to output in more than 8 bit tho? i am triend using the non clamped colors and pngs or tgas but its not working ,. do i need to render using vray?

You can try mental ray and exr.
