why hidden fumeFX are rendering? - jstrob2 - 01-24-2011

Is there a reason why if we hide a fumeFX object it will still render? As opposed to the behaviour of a regular 3dsmax object.

Hmm that is interesting.

Just tested it and I can confirm it:
1. Create a grid add source and simulate
2. Render
--Fume is visible in VFB
3. Hide Fume Grid
4. Render
--Fume is NOT visible in VFB
5. Unhide Fume
6. Hide Fume
7. Render
--Fume IS visible in VFB

So after the first set of hide/unhide actions the Fume Grid seems to remain in an Unhidden state.

Resimming seems to reset the behaviour. You can, for instance, resim, hide it once without it rendering, then hiding/unhiding subsequent times the issue seems to re-occur.

ive always used the "Renderable" property of the fume grid (in object properties) because of the "render when hidden" behaviour.

Seems to be the general workflow since no one else has reported this earlier. Afterburn has always been this way IIRC you have to disable rendering in the PF Source, hiding it doesn't matter it will still render.(of course that is if you don't disable it in the enviro dialog)
